How to choose a baguette for a stretch ceiling?
Stretch ceiling allows you to create a perfectly flat surface. It will look great in the interior, hiding all the flaws in the floor slabs and irregularities arising from the difference in structures. But it is impossible to stretch the ceiling without a baguette - strips that allow you to stretch the canvas of the stretch ceiling, press its edges against the walls and seal it.
Baguette - no less important part of the design of the stretch ceiling than the canvas itself. It is precisely on its quality that the ideal flatness of the surface, the absence of sagging in case of emergencies, the possibility of cleaning the ceiling without causing damage depends.
What is it needed for?
On the floor above, an accident may occur, and water from the neighbor's apartment will spill onto the ceiling. The ceiling can hold water because it is treated with different solutions.But in this case it can be deformed, and all the beauty of the tension structures will be spoiled.
When installing quality rails, the web will not hang, even if it is flooded from above. Therefore, the choice of baguette - a very responsible business.
Firms often produce designs complete with fabric for ceilings. Therefore, you can always choose the components of the stretch ceiling from the same manufacturer, so that both parts of the design are ideally suited to each other.
Kinds
Produce a huge number of profiles baguette for suspended ceilings. Depending on the wishes of the customer, you can choose one or another option that is suitable for a particular design.
According to the place of attachment, there are ceiling, wall and universal baguettes. Reiki can be placed on the ceiling or on the wall. The choice of a particular place depends on the baguette itself and the interior of the room in which the ceiling is tensioned. There is also a universal baguette, suitable for placement anywhere. It is often used to design exactly curved walls in the room.
There are special types of baguette: separate, angular and flexible. They are used for complex designs of ceilings, where simple slats are indispensable.
Separate baguette used in large rooms with an area of more than 60 square meters. There the canvas can sag if it is holistic. Therefore, in the middle of the room, a separate baguette is fixed on the ceiling, in the construction of which there are two mechanisms that fix the fabric. Thus, in a large room, the stretch ceiling is created from several canvases, but it looks ideally even, as a whole.
Corner Baguette attached simultaneously to the wall and ceiling. In its two locking grooves, the fabric is fixed in different ways. One canvas is mounted horizontally, the other - vertically. Difficulties arise when an unusual multi-level construction of the ceiling is created, and two canvases are fixed simultaneously in one baguette. Also in the corner baguette can be fixed and one canvas alternately at different levels, getting a curved geometric surface of the ceiling.
Flexible baguette initially created from materials capable of bending. In addition, there are cuts on it that allow to bend it without problems in accordance with any shape. The use of flexible rails extends the use of stretch ceilings.Even in a small rectangular room, you can create a two-level ceiling, in which one of the levels can have a wave-like or curved shape. This provides opportunities for the implementation of design experiments in the interior.
According to the material of manufacture there are aluminum and PVC baguettes.
Aluminum contour baguette very durable. It can be mounted anywhere. There are slats specially made for ceilings or walls, there are universal constructions suitable for any placement. But such a profile is difficult to install, because before installation it is necessary to make holes in it.
Aluminum slats do not fall on curved walls, so if necessary, stretch the canvas on the configuration of a curved room aluminum baguette must be cut into separate pieces, from which to spread the curve contour. It is quite heavy and expensive.
PVC baguette is flexible and lighter in weight.
It is easy to use on curved surfaces. It is cheap, but can bend under load. In the list of baguettes of this type there are visible and invisible options, which also allows you to choose the design to your liking.
Depending on how the canvas is attached to the baguette, there are four types of rails:
- cord;
- wedge;
- clothes pin;
- cam.
In the baguette-cord fix the ceiling canvas with a cord. This mount is very durable and allows not to sag the ceiling, even under moderate loads.
In the wedge baguette, the fabric is fixed with wedges, which allows you to create multi-level structures. Such opportunities can be advantageously used in interior design.
In the attachment baguette, the fixers are the clothespins, which very firmly clamp the web.
When using them, you can be sure that the fabric will not slip out of the mount. And the cam baguette has slamming mechanisms on the profile.
You can choose a gapless wall baguette, which looks very stylish. It creates the impression of a “floating ceiling” and is a good dividing element.
Dimensions
There are quite a lot of baguette profiles for stretch ceilings. Depending on the design features, the baguette is distinguished by its numbers. Each number has its own rack configuration and several other subspecies.
The full list includes the following varieties:
- Profile No. 1 allows you to fix the coating to vertical structures. It looks like a corner and has a visible part. The standard profile length is 3 meters; fastening is required after 10 cm.
- Profile No. 2 also allows the fabric to be attached to vertical structures. It has the form of a vertically elongated profile. There are visible and invisible options. The standard length is 2.5 m, the fastening is up to 15 cm. Invisible options have four varieties, differing by the design features and beam weight.
- Profile number 3 allows you to attach a canvas to horizontal surfaces. Visible profile looks like a corner. There is a gap between the visible part and the wall, which can be covered with masking tape. Standard length - 2.5 m, required fastening up to 30 cm.
- Profile number 4 is universal. With it, you can attach a stretch ceiling to both vertical and horizontal surfaces. It is quite rigid, therefore it requires a wider attachment - up to 50 cm. The standard length is 2.5 m, there is a gap between the visible part and the wall, which must be covered with masking tape.
- Profile number 5 makes it possible to attach the canvas to the wall.The profile construction is stretched in the vertical direction. The standard length is 2.5 m. The profile is quite rigid, but requires fixing up to 20 cm and has a gap between the visible part and the wall, which must be covered with masking tape.
- Profile number 6 is made in the form of the letter "T", used for joining two canvases and has two fixing grooves. There is a gap that needs to be covered with masking tape. Length - 2.5 m.
- Profile No. 18, made in the form of an isosceles triangle, is used to connect individual canvases of the ceiling and has two grooves for fastening the fabric. The gap must be closed with masking tape. Length - 2.5 m.
- Profile No. 9 is strongly extended vertically. It is used to install two-level ceilings, so the profile has two grooves for the fabric at different levels. Length - 2.5 m.
- Profile No. 8 RV / RN and Profile No. 16 RV / RN are box-shaped flexible slats, which are used for curved structures. They can be bent outward (with the mark RN) or inward (with the mark RV). Length - 1 m, there are also certain maximum allowable bending radii.
- Profile number 8 N has the appearance of a box. This is a flexible profile that is used to create curved stretch ceilings. The rail has a nib for easy bending. Length - 2.5 m.
- Profile No. 16 N has a box-like appearance with felts and serves for curvilinear tension structures. Length - 2 m.
- Profile No. 19 resembles the letter “G” and serves to attach the fabric to the walls. The height and width of this product must be measured extremely accurately.
Design
Previously stretch ceilings were used most often when it was necessary to hide an unattractive design. But with the expansion of the range of stretch ceilings they began to be used as interior decoration for the realization of design ideas. Now you can experiment with the color of the coating. Stretch ceilings can be sustained in any range - from the traditional white color to bright red or even black. Thanks to this color ensemble, a very unusual type of interior is created.
There is a wide selection of decorative elements for ceiling slats., allowing to create an interior in different styles. There is also a rich selection of ceiling structures. The tension of the canvas itself may not be flat, but complex in shape. The addition of a cornice with backlighting allows you to choose the style of the room, creating an amazing atmosphere.
Stretch ceiling slats may be visible or invisible.Invisible design when installing hidden behind the canvas stretch ceiling. Invisible slats create a perfectly even ceiling covering the walls.
Visible structures are not completely hidden behind the canvas. The web fastening system also has a decorative part, which covers the structural slats. It is mounted separately under the baguette that holds the canvas, has an aesthetically appealing look and looks like a beautiful cornice.
If it is not necessary to cover the ceiling with decorative elements, a flexible tape can help, which is laid in the gap between the wall and the structural element. They come in different colors and allow you to create a perfectly flat joint between the wall and the baguette.
Depending on what the visible part of the baguette looks like, the products are divided into several types:
- narrow;
- wide;
- flat;
- with backlit lighting;
- for the panel on the ceiling.
Narrow baguette with LED backlight is used when the fabric in a single layer must be stretched around the perimeter of the room. It is almost invisible.
The wide baguette in its visible part is a wide profiled eaves, which emphasizes the transition from wall to ceiling and brings variety to the design of the premises.
A flat baguette has the appearance of a rather flat tape around the perimeter of the ceiling. It emphasizes the transition from wall to ceiling, but is not as powerful as wide.
Relief lighting baguette - a very original reception. In this case, there is a wide cornice along the perimeter of the wall. At some distance from it the stretch ceiling is mounted. In the area between the eaves and the ceiling there are lamps that create the original lighting of the room. Ideal flat ceiling shimmers in bright light.
Also, with the help of a baguette, you can select a separate canvas on the ceiling, for example, a section with ornaments or paintings. In this case, use a beautiful decorative baguette. The decorative part of a baguette can imitate plaster stucco, wood carving and even stone. Since this rail does not carry the load, it can refer to any style of interior decoration.
Tips for choosing
At the moment, suspended ceilings provide an opportunity to implement any of the most daring design idea in the interior. Red curvilinear inserts in the middle, black ceilings of complex geometry, classic flower circles in the center of the ceiling - any idea can be realized with a stretch coating.
For all areas - from classic to modern - there will be a suitable solution among stretch ceilings. Therefore, the first step should be to study the range and possibilities of suspended ceilings. It is necessary to consider which option will suit the room: simple or complex, catchy or calm, even or multi-tiered.
When a design idea is formulated, it is possible to select the type of profiles depending on the design.
Next, you need to measure the room to calculate the number and footage of constructive rails that will hold the canvas. It is also necessary to take into account the number of decorative elements that adorn the transition from wall to ceiling. And only after that you can go to the store for the purchase of all necessary.
Installation
The installation procedure is quite complicated and requires responsibility. But to install a baguette to the drywall is not very difficult.
The work is divided into the following stages:
- installation;
- fasteners;
- glueing;
- painting.
When, all the details of the design have already been purchased, you can think about how to mount the ceiling. First you need to prepare the walls, remove the old wallpaper, make the surface smooth,since the slightest curvature or irregularity of the wall will spoil the whole impression of the result. If there are cracks in the concrete structure, they must also be repaired.
With the help of the construction level it is necessary to repel a straight line. Construction work is often carried out so that the overlaps are not laid horizontally, but with deviations. Stretch ceiling should be ideally placed exactly to correct all the shortcomings of construction work. To mark the place of future rails, you can use a laser level.
If the profile is plastic, in a place where there will be an angle, it is filed and bent.
The outer and inner corners are filmed differently. Next punch need to punch holes in the baguette with a step specified in the instructions.
After that, you should attach the dowels to the laths to the walls or ceiling. Baguette joints should be perfectly smooth. Particular attention should be paid to attaching the slats to drywall partitions. Reiki should hold onto them without problems. If you follow all the rules and fix the slats perfectly smoothly, the result will look great.
After that, the fabric of the ceiling is stretched. For fabric materials, this step is easy enough if everything is done correctly. This process requires certain skills and care.
Then the decorative finish of the finished structure begins. If necessary, you can seal the gap between the wall and the slats with flexible tape.
You can glue a decorative profile below the ceiling. The profile must be calculated along the length of the walls of the room and cut at an angle of 45 degrees at the junction. The cut should be perfectly level.
Gluing decorative profile also has its own characteristics. For this procedure, you need a special glue, because simple adhesive mixtures will not work. The decorative part can not be glued to the wallpaper, it is attached to the surface of the wall. The wall should also be flat and clean.
In no case can not allow glue to fall on the fabric of the ceiling, so the profile is glued only to the wall. During gluing it is even recommended to lay a newspaper or paper between the ceiling fabric and the decorative profile so as not to stain the stretch ceiling fabric. You need to glue very carefully so that not a single drop gets on the fabric.
The last stage is the painting of a decorative profile depending on individual preferences. If this is not necessary, you can not paint the outer side of the decorative part.
Beautiful examples in the interior
You can choose a separation baguette. It is better to entrust its installation to a professional, but if you have the necessary tools available, you can do the work yourself.
Cheap plastic baguettes look great. They can be installed in the middle of the ceiling, and not just at the edges.
