Multi-level plasterboard ceilings with lighting in the interior
You can create a unique and cozy design of any room in the apartment using the ceiling. After all, it is this detail that catches the eye first when entering the room. One of the original ideas in the interior design are multi-level plasterboard ceilings with lighting.
Special features
Due to its lightness and ease of processing, gypsum plasterboard allows you to create complex three-dimensional structures, which, after assembly, can only be processed with a putty and painted in any color. The result is an impressive interior detail with a smooth surface, not inferior in beauty to expensive building materials.
A multi-level plasterboard ceiling is usually fixed to metal ceiling profiles, which are easy to cut, give them any curved shape and fasten to concrete floors with screws with dowels.
For small rooms up to 16 square meters. m is enough to make 2 levels, and in spacious living rooms and halls use 2-3 levels or more.
It is very reasonable to make a multi-level ceiling in the room or hallway with lighting, which will add to the interior elegance and comfort. Due to the fact that sheets of drywall can be easily cut, you can directly embed small lamps with bright or dim light into them. They will be a good addition to the main chandelier or natural light from the window.
Illuminated plasterboard ceilings have a number of remarkable advantages:
- With the help of them, you can divide the room into zones, each of which will perform a specific function.
- Built-in lights are additional lighting, with the chandelier turned off, they can create a cozy twilight.
- Drywall well aligns any surface of the ceiling.
- In the niche under the sheets GK you can hide the wiring and other communications.
- With the help of volumetric forms and different types of lighting, you can realize any design idea.
For the installation of the built-in lighting in multi-level ceilings, it is worthwhile to take economical energy-saving light bulbs, which, at high light levels, consume little electricity and practically do not heat up.
Constructions
The most common option, which embodies multi-level plasterboard ceilings with lighting in the bedroom or hall, is a frame 15–20 cm wide around the perimeter of the room in combination with the central part elevated by 5–10 cm. Most often for this design choose white color, but you can experiment with other shades. The frame is quite easy to make: the upper tier is laid with sheets over the entire ceiling area, and the gutters of the lower tier are attached to it and the walls.
The work here is simplified by the fact that all angles are straight, and there is no need to bend the metal profiles.
Such a construction of two tiers can be easily assembled in a day. Despite the simplicity of the scheme, the resulting ceiling looks spectacular, especially if you add original lighting to it. Built-in spotlights can be evenly positioned in the bottom frame around the perimeter of the room or make hidden lighting in niches. For the latter method, it is necessary to change the design somewhat - the inner side walls of the frame-box should not be completely closed, but left a gap through which light will come from the lamps hidden in the niche.
Hidden room lighting has its own characteristics. Since the lamps themselves are not visible, the bright light from them does not hit the eyes, and the overall picture below can impress the guests. Different designs of the niche ceiling profile, which will be located lamps, affect the level of light. Depending on the height of the open opening and the location of the lamps, the width of the light strip also changes. It can be moderate (150 - 300 mm), bright (100 - 200 mm), very bright (50 - 100 mm) or diffuse (300 - 500 mm).
A good solution would be not only to assemble the suspended ceiling frame with hidden lighting, but also to make it manually adjustable. To do this, it is enough to include in the internal wiring a small circuit that changes the resistance. Then it will be possible to change the illumination in your room with a simple wall-mounted remote control - from bright daylight to intimate twilight.
The ceiling in the room can be divided into 2 - 3 tiers, each of which will denote its functional area in the room.Transitions between them can be made straight, but borders in the form of waves or other complex curves look more impressive. Drywall sheets are very malleable in cutting, it’s easy to create any curved line. It is more difficult to give the desired shape to the profiles to which GCRs are attached, but this task is also solvable. First, the U-shaped guides are cut along the side edges at a distance of 3 - 5 cm and then bent into the desired curve line.
On each of the ceiling levels, you can install your own tiered lights. If you want to create a more illuminated area, the lamps are selected more powerful, or they are placed more often. In dark areas, 2 to 3 points of illumination will suffice.
The three-level ceiling can be completely illuminated with the help of 10 to 15 LED lamps with an E27-type base with a power up to 12 W, and even you can not use a large central chandelier.
Design
A suspended ceiling of 2 - 3 levels with illumination can be decorated with different designs. Minimalist style ceiling frame with one step can look great even in a small room. The level adjacent to the window should be raised to 5 - 10 cm, and the level closer to the entrance is better to provide 3 - 4 built-in lights. If the transition is straight, then the lamps go in one row, and if the step ends with a curved line, then the lamps should go along a curve.
It is not necessary to use transitions between levels across the entire width of the room. It is possible to make an elegant stepped corner with additional lighting, for example, above the writing desk in the study or in the nursery. Then it is possible to paint each tier in different colors and provide it with two or three small light bulbs. This corner will immediately become comfortable and convenient for work.
The living room or a large hall can be equipped with a ceiling with a chic design that emphasizes the status and good taste of the residents. To do this, you can create a central zone with complex geometric shapes, each of which is equipped with its own lamps, they are also included separately.
The device frame and cable connections are more complicated, but as a result there is an opportunity to get a truly impressive project.
Many residents prefer to equip their apartment in a modern style with straight lines, the absence of unnecessary decorative details and an abundance of modern technical equipment.Together with furniture, appliances and walls in this concept, you can equip and suspended ceilings made of plasterboard. Right angles and lines are easily made using ceiling profiles.
Add even white light from built-in bulbs or LED strips, levels of lighting and colors are regulated by several switches or even a remote control. Different tiers of ceilings are decorated with glossy surfaces, decorative plaster or photo printing.
Suspended ceilings of 2 - 3 tiers in classic design have their own characteristics. A large number of decorative elements, ornaments and stucco can be used, traditional colors prevail. But with the lighting you need to be careful - instead of the built-in lamps to use beautiful hanging chandeliers.
To add light to the room, you can use light colors or glossy reflective surfaces for suspended ceilings. It is not recommended to hang heavy mirrors on plasterboard constructions, they can not withstand such a weight. But instead of them you can use a variety of other light materials with intense brilliance.
A successful and original solution is the combination of gypsum and stretch ceilings with a glossy surface. Another way - painting sheets of drywall with shiny acrylic paint.
In general, there are many types of finishes for multi-level plasterboard ceilings, each of which will affect the lighting in its own way. Under the spot built-in lamps, you can use decorative bark beetle plaster. With hanging lights it is permissible to glue wallpaper with patterns, and for eco-style to make the surface "under the tree."
How to choose for different rooms?
The choice of the number of tiers of a multi-level ceiling depends on the area and height of the room. Each level has 10 to 15 cm, so you should not make complex structures in low rooms, small apartments such as "Khrushchev". The fact is that the multi-tiered ceilings select the usable space, visually reduce the already small volumes.
For small rooms, kitchens, hallways, it is enough to make 2 tiers with the same type of LED lamps with an E27 or E14 base.
The situation is different in large rooms with an area of more than 20 square meters. m Many people want to make them a unique design using high-bay ceilings with lighting. For spacious rooms, you can mount a drywall frame in 2 - 3 tiers, provide it with lateral hidden lighting or built-in halogen, LED, fluorescent lamps.
There are a lot of design options - from classic or minimalism to cutting-edge style. The main thing is not to overdo it with tiers, because too large and complex clutter of voluminous fragments even in a large room will look tasteless.
You should also pay attention to the choice of fixtures for multi-level gypsum ceilings. According to their design and methods of fixing, they are of three types: point, pendant and LED strip.
Spotlights received the most popular due to its compactness, versatility and ease of installation. It is convenient to insert them into the plasterboard ceilings with a niche, the housing and the entire wiring system remains inside. It is possible to divide all the lamps in a room into groups, each of which will illuminate a separate zone and turn on with a separate switch.
The front part of the spotlight has a round shape, the body is made of silver metal or plastic. The advantages of such LED lamps in a long service life and low power - they practically do not emit heat. And their energy consumption is 8 times less than that of incandescent lamps and 3 times less than energy-saving lamps with the same level of illumination. For example, a 75W incandescent lamp can be replaced with a 12W LED power, and the room will not become darker.
Another advantage of LED lamps in the choice of light temperature, shade of white, suitable for a particular situation. There is a natural white, ideal for working in the office and household affairs, warm - for a relaxed atmosphere in the bedroom, heavy yellow, which is suitable for the kitchen, and other types.
In pendant lamps, the housing is located on the inside; its low weight allows them to be used on gypsum ceilings. They are attached to the mortgage profiles by the included instrument. Mounts are located inside the frame. Pendant lights are very similar to traditional chandeliers, and you can install them in the hall, bedroom or children's room, but do not hang in the kitchen or in the hallway.
LED strips are most well placed in a two-level plasterboard flow with a frame in the bedroom. These devices are similar to ordinary cable of different thickness, which is evenly illuminated along the entire length. The tape is easily bent and takes the desired shape.
On sale there are such lamps that regulate the brightness and even color, can smoothly change them. All equipment and wiring for them can be hidden in the ceiling box.
Halogen lamps in color and brightness are close to LED, although they are not so economical. But such lighting options are also well suited as built-in lighting for multi-tiered ceilings.
IRC lamps are particularly good, which consume less power and do not heat as much. They can be used, for example, for covert lighting of plasterboard ceilings in the bedroom.
Finally, as a budget option for the illumination of complex ceilings, fluorescent lamps can be used, which are cheaper than halogen and LED, but they have less service life and savings. Cold white glow may well be suitable for a hallway.
