Warming windows: what are the possibilities?

But before starting to work, it is necessary to know everything about the methods of insulation and their features. After all, insulation will have to do not only from the inside but also from the outside. So in order to properly insulate the windows, you need to take a closer look at how to do it and with what materials.

Very often wooden windows are used to decorate the attic space. Not all owners are now ready to change wooden frames to plastic profiles. Such windows have their drawbacks, so it is wiser to purchase wooden frames with plastic windows, but their price will be too high. Warming simple windows will be much cheaper and easier; the main thing is to know how to work with the material correctly.

For effective warming of wooden windows, first of all, it is necessary to identify all problem areas. And only then proceed to their warming, choosing the most suitable material for this. Warming can be done in several ways. In one case, you can get by with the usual old newspapers, which will play the role of a heat insulator. In another case, to insulate the room using foam seals, which will provide a very tight fit to the frame.

If you pull out the old window, the internal slope will be destroyed and it will be constantly cold near the opening. And after the installation of a new window, there can be unprocessed foam, spoiling the appearance of the room.It is therefore very important when performing insulation, to take into account all these features.

• Thermal insulation with foam. It is used for both outdoor and indoor insulation. It copes well with large gaps. It is mainly used for sealing joints that are between the slope and the frame, the window sill and the slope, as well as the beam above and the frame. Working with assembly foam, you should do everything in stages. Step by step instructions are extremely simple.

1. It is necessary to seal the gap foam. At the same time it should be distributed from the bottom up.
2. The gap must be filled by one-third, since as it freezes, the foam significantly increases in volume.
3. The temperature at which the work is performed must be at least five degrees.

Since the foam is very quickly destroyed by sunlight, it must be immediately covered with a layer of any finishing material. Instead of foam, you can use self-made putty. Prepare it easy. It is necessary to mix plaster and chalk, in the ratio 2: 1, add water and stir to the consistency of thick sour cream. With this mixture you can easily fill all the cracks.

• Heat film. Such a method very well insulates glass, but with its help it is possible to glue over a wooden frame. Its efficiency is equal to the efficiency of energy-saving double-glazed windows. And this means that sunlight enters the apartment, and the heat does not leave it. Such a film is made on the basis of polyester and metallic spraying, which tends to reflect heat. This material does not destroy the glass optics, easily withstands the effects of any detergent, and also is durable.

This option is one of the most effective and modern. Thermal insulation of this type in terms of efficiency can be compared with plastic windows. In this embodiment, seals are used, for which special grooves are made in the casement windows.

All work is carried out in the following sequence.

1. First you need to disassemble the sash.
2. Then cut the grooves around the perimeter of the valves with a special cutter.
3. The groove should fit the seal. That it is set as follows. It can be polyurethane, and foam rubber. You do not need to use glue, because the seal perfectly keeps due to thickening from inside the structure.
4. Where glass and sash are connected, sealant should be applied.
5. After this installation work is performed.

This type of insulation will last up to twenty years, and therefore the high price is fully justified. It is better to entrust the work on warming to specialists. However, if you have experience in carpentry work, you can do it yourself.

Warming is necessary not only for wooden windows, but also for PVC double-glazed windows. Usually such a need arises in cases where improper installation or operation is complicated by something. Also, the reason for the insulation may be the poor quality of the glass itself.

To perform the proper insulation of plastic glass for the winter you need to follow the following instructions.

1. The first step is to check the glass to see how well it holds.
2. If it is slightly loose during operation, then the edges can be glued only with sealant. It is very important to use acid-free formulations.
3. If the double-glazed window loosened very much, you need to remove the jumpers with spacers and replace them with new ones.

You can also use self-adhesive film for insulating plastic windows, which will many times reduce heat loss in the house. The edges of the tape should be cut with a stationery knife and pasted on pre-prepared adhesive tape. All installation work is not very difficult, so you can do it yourself.

The weakest points of the window design are:

• double glazing holder;
• seal;
• window fittings;
• slopes and window sills;
• places of an adjunction of shutters to window frames.

If at least something is damaged, it will blow from the windows. To determine the place of heat loss, simply hold the surface of the window by hand. • Internal. For internal insulation, you can apply any technology. For example, to isolate the junction of the frame and glass, you can use either a sealant or a heat-saving film. You can also use mounting foam, which then needs to be sealed with a casing.

To perform the insulation of the window in the house, you can refer to the time-tested methods. Here are some of them.

• With the help of paper. Today it is used very rarely, although, in fact, it is the easiest and cheapest option. To translate this idea it is necessary to tear any paper into pieces, whether it be newspapers or wallpaper. Then you need to twist it into bundles and clog the gap between the window and the sash with this material.For this can be used as a screwdriver, and other sharp object.

Also with the help of paper you can make an excellent putty. To do this, you need to grind, soak in water and squeeze, add one part of the clay and two parts of the crushed chalk. This putty will perfectly cope even with the smallest crevices.

A more modern way is considered to be pasting windows with a special tape. This method is much simpler than the previous one. However, this type of finish does not allow to ventilate the room. Also, when removing paper from windows, traces remain on the frames, and sometimes even paint is removed. Therefore, in the spring it is necessary to update the surface a little.

• Vata. The process is very simple. Cotton wool is treated the same way as paper. It is laid in all the cracks, and on top is glued paper or tape. The only difference from the previous version is that it will be a little easier to get the cotton wool out of the slots.
• Lanyard. You can fill the gap with ordinary cotton cord. The method is unusual, but effective. The cord is fixed with small studs or glue. Thanks to this method, the window is sealed at a high level. Of course, spring will have to devote a lot of time to the dismantling of this insulation.
• Foam rubber and seal. This option is very efficient and modern. The tape made of foam rubber will be inexpensive, besides it can be used not one winter, but two full years. This option is suitable for those windows where there are large gaps. Installation works are not particularly difficult, but require considerable labor. This method of finishing allows you to open the window at any time of the year.

It is considered more durable insulation, which is carried out with the help of sealing cords. They are made of rubber or polyethylene foam. The advantage of such seals is low cost. Cords come in very different shapes, it all depends on what kind of cracks in window designs.

The highest level of protection against cold can be achieved by taking sponge seals. They allow you to open the window at any time and serve more than one season.The compactor can even be self-adhesive.

However, buying such material, it is necessary to pay attention to the shelf life. If it is already coming to an end, then the seal will not stick or will very quickly withdraw. Therefore, it is better to buy a separate sealant, and separately glue or silicone sealant. This option will increase its durability.
