Titebond wood glue: types and nuances of use
Titebond's well-known carpentry glue has earned a reputation as one of the highest quality materials used to glue wood. The use of innovative technologies in the development of a unique composition allowed us to create a sticky substance with which it is possible to produce various types of work.
Types
There are about 25 types of Titebond glue, which are successfully used for industrial purposes. The most common universal moisture-resistant compositions consisting of one component. They are used for gluing wood.
There are:
- II Premium. The composition is moisture resistant, elasticity, immunity to solvents.
- Original Wood Glue. The composition has high hardness, nonplastic.
- Titebond 3 glue. It has no chemical solvents.
Depending on the purpose and conditions of use, one or another composition is selected.
Special features
Titebond adhesive is intended for professional use. However, subject to the instructions, it can be used in everyday life.
Depending on the type of substance, the composition of the components differs. Among the main components emit aliphatic resin, synthetic rubber, polymers, polyurethane, protein, water. Standard packaging contains 473 ml of the substance.
When working with glue, it is important to observe the temperature, humidity parameters, which are indicated on the manufacturer's packaging.
It should be noted that when cured, the sticky emulsion forms a beige-colored film. Glue can be easily removed from the treated surface until drying. After that, you have to use the tools at hand.
Characteristic
Depending on the type of composition, Titebond adhesive (to a greater or lesser extent) has the following characteristics:
- possesses water resistance;
- provides high bond strength;
- has resistance to high temperatures (up to 50 degrees above zero);
- does not collapse under the influence of chemicals;
- does not perceive acoustic vibrations;
- does not contain abrasive components, and, therefore, does not spoil the tools;
- the substance contains toxic components;
- does not collapse during freezing;
- flammable at a temperature of 100 degrees.
In addition, Titebond 3 Universal Glue has the following properties:
- environmental friendliness;
- suitable for work at low temperatures.
Knowledge of the basic characteristics of the composition allows you to get the best quality at no extra cost.
Scope of application
Clay II Premium used for joining wooden joints, gluing paper material, laminate, plywood, chipboard, veneer. Substance used for the repair of outdoor wooden furniture. They can glue cutting boards for cooking.
Original wood glue used to design and repair wooden musical instruments.
Titebond 3 used to join veneer, plywood, wood, plastics, chipboard. The tool is used for both internal and external construction works. Due to the harmlessness of the composition, the substance can be used in the food industry.Glue is not used to connect surfaces that are under water.
Usage tips
Titebond is recommended to be used only at positive temperatures. Gluing the base should be dry, thoroughly cleaned from dirt, grease, foreign particles.
Before applying the substance to the surface, it must be stirred. It should be remembered that the composition is completely hardened in 10-20 minutes. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare it before starting work. For a more dense grip on the surface, it can be held under pressure for some time.
The adhesive mixture is not recommended for joining painted surfaces, as well as on wet surfaces.
All work with glue must be made in protective equipment. For this purpose, special gloves and glasses are used. If the product comes into contact with the skin or mucous membranes, it should be washed off with plenty of water, and if necessary, consult a specialist. The room must be well ventilated. Humidity should not exceed the established norms.
The shelf life of the waterproof adhesive substance is 2 years from the opening of the package. Store it at room temperature.Expired adhesive is not recommended.
Reviews
Among the comments of those who used the adhesive composition in everyday life, there are both positive and negative opinions.
Positive aspects include ease of use, high density of adhesion of surfaces, fast freezing. There are reviews that the strength of the adhesive is higher than the strength of the wood itself. It is noted that the substance, until it dries, is easy to remove from any surfaces.
The disadvantages include the inability of the adhesive substance to maintain its structure under direct sunlight. There is a rapid destruction of the glue line. You can also find reviews that the glue is soluble in water, so it is not recommended for the repair of boats. Many note the relatively high cost.
When using the compositions as prescribed in compliance with the instructions for use of claims to the product does not occur. Negative reviews are most often associated with a violation of the technology of use or the use of low-quality compounds. It is important to note that any means for repair should be purchased in stores. It is necessary to carefully study the instructions, and if you have any questions, consult with a specialist.
